(The Social, Orlando) On short notice, I agreed to cover this artist I had never heard of. But by the end of the night, I was a huge fan and wanted to hear so much more from Snow Tha Product!!
The Social is a very small venue. But when I entered, it was clear that Snow had a very loyal following. The crowd was a younger demographic, and that's about all I could pick up on. The audience was lively during the opening acts and it seemed like it was going to be a good show.
Snow took to the stage and the crowd erupted. Right off the bat, I could hear everyone around me rapping along to the California-native, Texas resident with purple hair. She was unfiltered, raw, and a complete and confident badass on stage. What the heck was this? Where has she been hiding, and how have I not heard of her before tonight?
Her lyrics are not for younger audiences, evidenced in one of her smashes this evening in 'Say Bitch.' 'Butter' which released just last week was another crowd favorite tonight. 'AyAyAy!' had the crowd losing their minds. 'Hola (Hola, Bitch Que Pasa)' had everyone rapping bilingually, including myself, by the end of the night!
Snow was exciting to watch. Apparently the venue needed Snow to conclude the show early this evening for some reason, and Snow wasn't happy about it. She might not have much respect for authority, but she absolutely loves her fans -- at one point this evening she immersed herself into the crowd and crowd-surfed, while adoring fans handed her from one to another, hoisting Snow above their outstretched arms overhead. Embracing her Mexican heritage and homosexuality, she donned the Mexican flag over her shoulders with the rainbow-adorned version proudly on display behind her centerstage.
Snow was clear that she wanted to perform longer for her fans tonight, but needed to leave.
I was able to meet up with some of her tour guys after the show, and they were so warm and inviting, telling me to hang out with them and wait for Snow to come out to the van. I just watched this electrifying performer on stage, and was curious yet a little nervous how she would be in person. Easily, she was one of the warmest entertainers I've ever met!! She was humble, courteous, and genuine with me. She told me that she really wanted to come back to Orlando someday 'hopefully in a bigger venue' and I should 'definitely come back out to catch her the next time she came through.'
Snow will be a powerful voice for the LGBQT community, a strong representative for women, and a huge player in the rap world. Her technique and sound could be defined as high-speed with extremely clear diction. Her lyrics, while comedic at times, simultaneously demonstrated an underlying serious tone with the potential for some very impactful messaging.
I'm surprised I had not heard of her prior to tonight, but she's blowing up (I was able to tell her that!), and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for her next!
