(SeaWorld Orlando) On select dates between May 27 - September 5, guests visiting SeaWorld Orlando have a wonderful opportunity to check out the park's 'Electric Ocean' nighttime spectacular event.
On June 10, select media were invited to see what the excitement was about. In a tented area, we sampled some of the very tasty limited-time Electric Eats offerings available to park guests: Beef & Cheese Empanadas were tasty and flavorful, with the Chicken & Cheese empanadas being a little more creamy on the inside with a flakier fried exterior. With either choice you couldn't go wrong: both offered up a slightly spicy kick, but I personally liked the chicken version just slightly more. Although not available during the media preview itself, we did check out the Rum BBQ Chicken Skewers. At first the $20 price tag on these seemed a bit steep, but considering that once it was served and it was hanging over both sides of the plate, the value actually seemed pretty decent for the massive serving!
SeaWorld was also serving up some fun ride-themed adult beverages in the way of the Ice Breaker (Reyka Vodka, watermelon juice, lavender, lime), Kraken (Monkey Shoulder Whiskey, almost, orange juice, angostura bitters), Manta (Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, passion fruit puree, hibiscus, lemonade), and Mako (Milagro Tequila, blueberry, pineapple juice, citrus sour). The drinks were flavorful and pretty generous on the alcohol, so be forewarned now to pace yourselves!
For your sweet tooth: beignets, those little deep-fried pieces of dough, covered in sugar... yeah, SeaWorld had their versions of these French treat pastries, but with 3 different filling variations: Bananas Foster, Nutella, and Dulce de Leche! We strongly recommend any of these!
I didn't venture onto any huge thrill rides on this visit, but I did try to keep with the night-theme and visited the 'Rescue Tails: Night Vision' show, featuring some cute (and some a little scary) nocturnal animals while showcasing SeaWorld's commitment to animal care and rescue. Pepe the Striped Skunk was the first guest of the show, and because lacked his naturally defensive spray glands, he was a great example of the type of animals that the park was working so hard to save. This marked the first time I had ever seen a Gila monster, whose almost cartoonish appearance had me rubbing my eyes to determine if this fascinating creature before me was real or not. Poppy the Possum was a super-cute white version of North America's only marsupial. Boris the South American porcupine with his 30,000 quills, Archimedes the Great Horned Owl from UC Davis, Disco the Grey Fox, Octavius the curly-haired tarantula, and 5-week old raccoons Zig & Zag rounded out the rest of the educational show, with the final parting reminders to not leave dog or cat food out at night / don't throw food out on the side of the road at night / reduce light pollution and turn lights off at night, gave all of us some food for thought as to how we could better cohabitate on this planet with our wild animal counterparts.
Club Sea Glow is a SeaWorld's nightly dance party at Bayside Stadium, which is fun on the dance floor particularly if you have little ones wanting to mingle with street-dancers, BMX stunt cyclists, or hula-hoop artists. For myself, I happily enjoyed a bystander role at the party, sitting in the fixed-seating area of the stadium and just onlooking at the other dancing guests having a great time. This highly-engaging level of interaction does make SeaWorld's dance party unique versus its other theme park competitors, so bonus points to SeaWorld for that.
Ignite 360 is the show to watch when the lights go out. Just behind where all the families were dancing is a huge and wonderful water-fountain display, reminiscent of the Bellagio fountains in Vegas. Synchronized jets of water bursting into the night sky, and syncopated raising and lowering of the fountains timed to the background music was beautiful and amazing. Couple this now with the tremendous fireworks display, and laser-light show piercing through the cloud-effects overhead... it was a very impressive spectacle to observe.
Do yourself a favor and check out Electric Ocean at SeaWorld during this very special limited-night showing. It's fun, and combines multiple successful night elements from other shows I've seen into one well-coordinated event. Well done, SeaWorld!!
