(Orlando FL Executive Airport): Textron Aviation, in conjunction with over 120 Cessna, Beechcraft and Hawker owners and operators, transported over 800 athletes and coaches from across the US to Orlando FL for the 2022 Special Olympics Games.
Dating back to 1985, this is now Textron's 8th airlift when Cessna and a few other airplanes transported the Kansas delegation for the Games. Supported by numerous Textron customers who donated aircraft and fuel, the largest peacetime airlift in the world was landing approximately 1 aircraft every 90 seconds into Orlando Executive Airport over the course of several hours on Saturday.
Special Olympics' Airlift Honorary Chairman, NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning was on hand to meet with athletes and welcome them immediately upon landing. Taking selfies and putting huge smiles on these participant's faces is where Manning excelled today.
So significant in nature is this operation, that the FAA actually assigned the 'Dove' callsign, to aircraft flying athletes for this event, with 'Dove 1', the 1st aircraft landing into Orlando this morning, touching down at 8am.
