(Hard Rock Live, Orlando FL) Before a sold-out Hard Rock Live venue at Universal Studios' CityWalk, a very matured Sabrina Carpenter entertained a fully-packed participating audience.
For her followers, Sabrina was initially made popular through her acting work. In 2011, she made her acting debut via a guest role on NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit series. But it was her work on 'Girl Meets World', which debuted in June 2014, which brought her more into mainstream Disney popularity. On the series, Sabrina played 'Maya' who was the rebellious best friend of golden child character, Riley Matthews.
Then in 2014, Sabrina launched her musical career. In July 2022, she released her 5th album titled 'Emails I Can't Send', the namesake for this 14-leg tour, whose final show happened to be this specific performance in Orlando.
Approximately 14 songs made up the main setlist, with 2 encores. 10 minutes prior to the start of the show, the ambient background music playing over the speakers turned way up and got the crowd pretty excited.
Permeating from the backstage, Sabrina found her way through the large and illuminated heart-shaped stage prop which framed the keyboard sitting atop 3 stairs for the remainder of the concert. Initially, only Sabrina's silhouette could be made out, the way the lighting was on her. But at the conclusion of the 1st song (Emails I Can't Send), the spotlight went on and tracked her as she marched toward the front of the stage. The now-23 year-old is well beyond her Disney days, mature in her thoughts and addresses toward the crowd, at one point bonding with the audience by stating 'Thank you so much for being here... this is all I've ever wanted to do: is to sing and dance in front of a room full of, like-minded individuals that are also experiencing terrible things in life', which drew immediate cheers from the crowd.
At some points it was difficult to hear her performing, with nearly everyone around me singing alongside her, note for note. She sounded great, danced enthusiastically, and did well to draw the audience into the performance.
The merch was a bit pricey ($45 and $60 t-shirts, $85 hoodies, and $90 long-sleeve shirts), but that wasn't stopping anyone from purchasing them. But on the whole, the takeaway from tonight's performance was that she had a super-loyal fanbase who will enthusiastically follow her and her tour wherever they may end up.
Although you can't see Sabrina this time around, you'll want to purchase tickets early for whenever her next leg of shows gets released. She's a wonderful performer, and we look forward to her passing through central Florida again, hopefully!
