(EPCOT, Lake Buena Vista) Jim Belushi is probably best known for his comedic movie roles, through which he has played lead roles in hit films such as 'Trading Places', 'K-9', and 'Curly Sue'. In the early 80's, he was one of the regulars on Saturday Night Live, then in the early 2000's and for a nearly decade at that, he starred in his own television hit sitcom 'According to Jim'.
But did you know whose music was featured on 'According to Jim'? It was none other than Jim Belushi and The Sacred Hearts Band, and ever since then they've been performing and touring together... and to the delight of many Disney tourists, the band performed for 2 nights (Oct. 1 & 2) as part of EPCOT's Eat to the Beat concert series.
What was great about their performance is that each set (3 sets each night) was different than the previous one. So park visitors essentially got to listen to 1.5 hours of different music, as opposed to 3 sessions of the same exact songs. On the night we went, the 2nd set conveyed a very strong New Orleans-style big band / Mardi Gras influence, and had many of the guests dancing in their seats to the point that many of them danced in the aisles when Belushi descended from the stage and into the crowd.
The next set was significantly more subdued, but Belushi kept remained very close to the audience, offering up commentary in between songs, and giving everyone the chance to feel up close and personal with Belushi.
EPCOT typically likes to bring back their crowd favorites from year to year, and we certainly hope to see Jim Belushi and The Sacred Hearts as one of the performers we can look forward to seeing / hearing each year!!
