(Orlando FL) The Eagles performed at Orlando's Amway Center Saturday November 23 2013, as they provided the evolution of the band's history beginning when its early founders' Don Henley and Glenn Frey backed Linda Ronstadt in the Spring of 1971.
Fittingly, the concert began with only the 2 founding members, Henley and Frey, taking the stage to open the evening with 'Saturday Night', a song originally released on the band's second album back in 1973. The song was notable in that it featured then-guitarist Bernie Leadon's musical abilities on the banjo, guitar, and mandolin. Leadon left the group in 1975 but much to the audience's surprise, Leadon came back to perform with the Eagles on this tour as we watched him grace the stage at Amway where he sat comfortably amongst the band.
A short while later the Eagles' current bassist and acoustic guitarist, Timothy Schmidt would also take the stage. As the quartet was now getting further into its setlist, Henley moved from his position playing the guitar right-side up to then laying the guitar and playing it as a percussion instrument. This served as the segue as Henley made room on center stage as he moved over to the drumset. It was at this point that the band was joined by its 4th current member, Joe Walsh, who was originally with the band from '75 - '80, took a leave of absence, and then rejoined in 1994 to current.
In all, the Eagles performed for 3 hours on this night, playing 27 songs. It was a night of pure musical entertainment.
